The celebrated gospel singer reportedly passed away after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of faith-filled music that touched countless lives across Nigeria and beyond.

Death Announcement Shared by Colleague

News of her death was made public on Tuesday by fellow gospel musician Ayo Melody, who shared a heartfelt announcement on Instagram. The post, accompanied by a photograph of the late singer, confirmed that Bunmi Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.

The statement read:

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as OMIJE OJUMI. May God grant her eternal rest.”

The announcement was signed by Olawale Akinnaanu, who spoke on behalf of the family.

Cause of Death Not Disclosed

At the time of reporting, the family has not disclosed the cause of death, choosing instead to focus on celebrating her life and spiritual impact. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further medical details have been officially released.

However, prior to her passing, Bunmi Akinnaanu had openly sought prayers during a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan. In a video that later circulated online, the gospel singer was seen seated with her leg stretched out on a chair as a cleric prayed for her over a visible leg complication.
